Trivia, commentaries and crazy stuffTrivia tracks are collections of trivia items relating to a film which appear onscreen at relevant times. Presenting facts or comments along with video, so viewers can clearly see whatever the text is talking about, is far more interesting and involving than a simple static list of facts. Trivia tracks have recently become common on major DVD releases. Text commentaries are similar to conventional DVD commentaries except that the commentary appears only as text, which can be clicked on and off in the same manner as closed captions. This means the original audio of the film can be left intact, which has the advantage of not only saving on recording and editing costs but also of minimising file size. A text commentary file is orders of magnitude smaller than a corresponding audio commentary file. There are many applications for text which appears and disappears at particular timecodes during a video. Do you want to run text ads for the products seen in the video? Devise a game or joke that's only accessible when the caption stream is activated? Make comments on a video?
